A COUNTRY
A country
A yours country
A mine country
A country where human rights is trampled upon
and subject to the cruelty and brutality of the law!
Same law made to protect and serve justice to the just and frown at the unjust?
A yours country
A mine country
A country basked with terrorists and bandits
dancing in harmonious tunes to the orange-red sky heat-beats of bomb blasts
and sorrows of lost souls - both of the dead and the living-dead
Yet side by side they assemble
with slices of national cakes in dinner with law makers!
A royal treatment to the unsung warriors and heroes of the elites
Who are we?
DUSTS!!
A country
A yours country
A mine country
A country sunken in liquid swells of oil,
abundant green of agric - cultures and yes,
innovo-creative minds and talents of beautiful youths
Yet, drips of tasteful saltiness to the tongue as they sober in lack of jobs
Who am I? Who are you? Who brought you? Who do you know?
What is your name? What is your father's name?
How did you hear about this opportunity?
The order of the day under the 20 minutes cool air conditioned breeze
to be met by a seemingly unending bath of orange-red sunlight scorches.
Horribly terrible!!
A country
A yours country
A mine country
A country where oppositions & outspokenness
is dealt with horizo-vertic jail bars & bleeds of death
thus securing more wealth to grave yards and poverty punishments to living yards
an unbecoming reality unfazed and undaunting to the protectorates of the citizens
Remind me the definition of DEMOCRACY again!
Alas, we reside in a 'Crazy' environ,
I guess still reside in the 'Demo' phase.
A country
A yours country
A mine country
A country where the nights are prayed to be safe
but the mornings question vigorously its unsafe harbourage
because neither day nor night is a sure fit for the term safety and security
White-black unforgiving arrests and kidnappings by day
Black-black aggressive raids and brutality by night
Define safety....define security again!
A country
A yours country
A mine country
When do we get it right?
Nowhere but everywhere to run
No one but someone, someday
We weep more until we act together now, to weep no more!
For indeed, "there was a country" (Chinua Achebe)
But indeed, believe I still do and faith I still have on the fate of the great Giant of Africa!
Callistus I. Okonkwor
